Dating Sites - reporting problems

A couple in a loving embrace at an art gallery, with framed artwork on the white wall behind them and their reflection visible on a shiny surface below.

The online Dating Sites Project

Having raised the role of dating sites in grooming - groomers using them to find their targets - we strongly believe you should report to the dating site with any concerns about members’ behaviours……

Research methods:

  1. We started with a huge list, but quickly realised that we should start with the most used dating sites in the UK

  2. We are working our way through these sites one by one - this work is incomplete and will probably change over time. Please let us know if you find errors or broken links.

  3. We visit their websites and find the information there that we need. If we are unable to find the links, we used AI tools to help us surface the links, but visit the links and check them out before posting. If links go to sites we consider risky, or to sites that promote harm to users, we do not include them. (However, we’re human, and this is not the only reason links will be missing)

  4. Information about the sites has been researched across various sources, notably dating industry site and parent sites but this information should be taken as a guideline only.

  5. Information about holding companies is as accurate and checked out as it can be at time of posting. It should be used as a guide, and you should check the information yourself if relying upon it.

  6. If there is a particular site you would like us to ‘leapfrog’ research for, please contact us. (We’re working our way through and enormous list!)

We are currently working our way through sites, and welcome any feedback — or support researching!

For each dating website below, ODDA membership is noted (yes or no) and the site’s Trustpilot score.

These were accurate at the time the data was entered, but it’s important that you should verify this and reassure yourself if you are using it to decide whether to use a dating site.

The ODDA

The ODDA is the Online Dating and Discovery Association (ODDA).

It is an industry representative body, which aims to set standards. Membership is paid for, and the association has no legal standing, but members which breach their code of conduct can be ejected.

We have noted whether sites are members or not solely because there is little else out there monitoring sites with any kind of credibility, and this at least shows willingness to raise standards.

If you are wanting to know whether a site we haven’t added yet is an ODDA member, this is the link to use: Is my dating site an ODDA member?

Member’s duties (ie dating sites registered with them) can be seen: here.

Trustpilot

There are endless review sites, but for consistency we have included Trustpilot reviews.

People have only usually gone here to complain, so low scores (general!) are not necessarily a good indicator, BUT the comments and what people are complaining about are worth taking note of.

Scores are given along wth the date on which they were noted

Mozilla’s Privacy Not Included buyer’s guide for dating sites comes with Privacy Not Included warning labels on products they believe consumers should think twice about before buying. A link on the CAAGe profile means it’s been reviewed by Mozilla, not that it’s automatically bad.

Mozilla set some strict standards against which to benchmark. If they couldn’t confirm a product meets their Minimum Security Standards, it automatically earned the *Privacy Not Included label.

These standards are what Mozilla believes the minimum a dating site should meet to be on the market, how a company uses the data the product collects on you, your control over the data the company collects, and what the company’s known track record is over the past two years for protecting their users’ data. How a company performs on these criteria determines if Mozilla assigns them a warning label, “Privacy not Included”, and explains their concerns.

Spoiler alert: none do very well, so data security seems to be an across the board issue for dating apps. However, the fact that Mozilla deemed a site important enough to look at implies the site/app is one of the more commonly used sites/apps, and the information thay have researched can help you decide on settings and clean up when/if you leave the site.

    2. Many of the other sites mentioned here can used for hookups too.

  • New List Item

    Description goes here

Dating site ownership groups

In this section we have tried to list the owner groups where they have multiple sites.

This serves two purposes of concern to us where safety from adult grooming is concerned:

  • to raise a concern where (your!) data sharing may be happening;

  • and if a particular site fails to respond to an issue raised about a member, it MIGHT be reasonable to contact the parent group.

We can only promise to have done our best to be accurate. The market is saturated and so there are many mergers and acquisitions, site closures and changed directions happening. So please check this information before relying on it - treat it as a start point not the destination.

Do contact us with any mistakes or concerns and we’ll correct the mistakes or research missing information. We’ll happily put the leg work in to update if there’s something specific you need.

Once we’re closer to a fuller picture, we will approach the owner companies for confirmation of accuracy.

Of rising concern to us is how willing the sites are to cooperate with the police (UK). This is the next project!

Bumble (group)

Bumble owns Bumble (dating app), BFF (Bumble for Friends, designed to help people meet friends) and Badoo.

From website:

“Whitney Wolfe Herd founded Bumble with one goal: to build the most trusted space to find love, where women make the first move, and connection is rooted in respect.

As CEO, she still leads with the same belief: that finding love online should feel intentional, safe, and authentic. Bumble is about more than dating. It’s about helping people find what matters, with care, intention, and heart. That means using technology and AI to deepen human connection, not replace it. ”

  • Cupid Media

Cupid Media syndicates member’s data across its sites, which are ‘white labelled’ - owned by other companies who make money from their sites but the data is provided by Cupid Media.

If you register on one site, you could find yourself on other sites. For example, sign up on Christian Cupid and find yourself on Black Cupid because you’re black, or Gay Cupid because you’re gay.

This approach is fine if you know what you’re signing up for.

However, we also believe this could prove problematic. Say you are a single parent protecting your children by only using single dating sites: you could find yourself also on a site for dating for redheads if you’re a redhead, a ‘uniform dating’ type site if you’re in a profession that wears one etc.

The site’s view is that they get you the dates.

Ours is that they should ask your explicit permission to share this data across sites before doing so - terms and conditions are not enough.

It is down to each Cupid Media synidicated site to decide on their own monitoring policies and Cupid Media takes no responsibility for them.

If a site has a name containing the word ‘Cupid’, it is worth checking whether it is part of the Cupid Media Group, and whether you are happy for your profile to be shared. (For many this is a bonus as it will give you access to more sites, and this may suit you.)

Our view is that you should be able to opt in - this way it can be seen as an extra benefit to joining a Cupid Media site, being listed on other dating sites,

Dating Lab

Registered in Jersey, also operating out of South Africa, Dating Lab (according to their website, May 2026), provides “successful and profitable dating services to the world’s leading media brands”.

They operate under their own brands (TBA) or ‘white label’ - using another company’s brand.

They operate internationally and claim to have “a veritable arsenal of systems (technical & human) in place to weed out people who may be looking to take advantage of our members.”

These sites include, again, according to their website, The Telegraph, Classic FM, WeMatch, Love2Meet, and DatingBuzz.

We are aware (from their website) of an association with Ivory Towers (see above).

Their website exists only for new business and suggests you go directly to the dating brand to report or question.

Dating Lions

Dating Lions offers websites on an affiliate marketing basis. Dating affiliate marketers host sites that advertise dating offers. They promote these offers on behalf of the brands and feature them across blogs, ads, videos and product links.

The British sites that Dating Lions pays affiliates to advertise/promote are:

  • 60s Love

  • 40s Meet

  • Love at 50

The Dating Network (TheDatingNetwork.com)

  • The Dating Network logo

The Dating Network: know how your data is being used

The Dating Network works in the same way as Cupid Media, above, reusing data from dating profiles across numerous sites

  • Naked Dating

The Naked Dating Site is part of the Dating Network - sign up for one and your profile may be shared with the others including:

    Single Naked Dating

    Single Naked Men

    Single Naked Gay Men

    Single Naked Women

    Single Naked Lesbian Women

    Single Naked Couples.

The company doesn’t offer any specific aid to anyone unhappy about a contact, and this has to raise a concern about people’s intimate pictures being shared without their consent.

There is an age disclaimer on the site, but nowhere to raise any concerns.

Four Fingers Management

Four Fingers Management is a Dutch company behind 1,623 fake dating sites active in 32 different countries. These sites are white‑label or clone dating platforms ie profiles are shared across them. The sites are operated through subsidiaries or shell companies, effectively hiding true ownership .

The company collates photos of real people without permission, including pornography actresses, social media and revenge porn sites. Customers believe they’re talking to a real person, but are usually talking to an employee of the company (‘animators’), disguised. They keep customers online for as long as possible, because the company pays per message sent.

In 2018, the Netherland’s Authority for Consumers & Markets (ACM) raided several fake dating companies and imposed fines, and established rules of conduct among other things. These websites are not allowed to imply that a physical meeting with a fake profile is possible and must honestly disclose that profiles are fake if a customer asks. For vulnerable customers, the websites must proactively report that the person they are talking to is not real. (Source: NL Times)

However, the scale of operations and ease of closing down/renaming sites makes it hard to trace.

The sites look professional. Signs that a dating site may be one of these include:

  • immediate messages arriving upon signup;

  • lack of video or voice chat options;

  • having generic, localised names (a Dutch example is Noordzeemeisjes, North Sea Girls) that would come up on a search for ‘dates near me’/location based searches for dating sites;

  • to continue conversations you are asked to pay extra.

The only site that we could explicitly find in this group is dateyou.com, which does seem to make the required legal disclosures.

M14 Industries

M14 is a whitelabel web and app platform (technology group, which partners to deliver dating appa to ‘niche’ groups, underserved by the dating market.

User data is explicitly not shared across M14 sites.

Match Group

The Match Group is a publicly listed company (majority shareholder, IAC. )

Match GROUP accounted for more than 56% of total dating app downloads in 2022/3. Its online dating sites include popular sites for the UK: Hinge, Match.com, OkCupid, Plenty of Fish, and Tinder.

The Match Group Safety project (see below) comes hot on the heels of safety concerns raised around monitoring. Although the link below is critical of the success of the project, the site has also formed a link with anti-trafficking organisation, RAINN.

In addition to sites mentioned in our listings, above, other sites mentioned by the group include:

(Some of these sites may be search narrowing functions on the Match.com site.)

Chinese People Meet —- Delightful —- Democratic People Meet —- Divorced People Meet —- Even —-GenX People Meet —- Hakuna —- India Match —- Interracial People Meet —- Italian People Meet —- J People Meet —- LDS Planet —- Little People Meet —- Loveandseek —- Marriage Minded People Meet —-Meetic —- Pairs —- Peoplemeet —- Petpeoplemeet —- Republican People Meet —- Salams —- Senior Black People Meet —- Ship —- Single People Meet —- Stir —- The League —-Upward —- Yuzu —- Veggie People Meet.

Sites we have already checked but which aren’t included in the detailed breakdowns above :

Asian People Meet - this seems to be a subsearch on the Match.com site.

BabyBoomerPeopleMeet, although listed on the Match site (May 2026) is no longer active and sends users to Match site, OurTime.

BlackChristianPeopleMeet, although listed on the Match site (May 2026) is no longer active and sends users to Match site, Upward.

Black People Meet2 appears to simply be a typo as listed on the Match Group website? (We cannot trace and have been blocked by Cloudflare (May 2026) which we are contesting.)

Black Professional People Meet is listed on both the Match Group website and Wikipedia as a Match Group site, but we have been unable to trace it in search (May 2026).

Catholic People Meet - this seems to be a subsearch on the Match.com site.

Latino People Meet - listed on the Match site (May 2026), but not traceable via Google.

Safety project

All Match sites are all subject to a safety initiative, The Match Group Safety Project (see below).

Match shares your information across sites.

They may show your profile on other Match Group services, so if there’s a data law in that country, this will be explicit and opt-in (allowing you to agree or to refuse.)

They expressly share identifiers, profile and activity data of single parent, Latino or LGBTQ+ users so they can be shown offers for a different Match Group service.

Matrimony.com

The site was down when we searched in April 2026.

Using a mix of Google AI search and manual search, we’ve traced the following:

Dedicated Dating Apps

  • Luv.com A platform designed for individuals seeking committed, serious relationships rather than casual dating.

  • MeraLuv: An exclusive dating app launched in early 2024 specifically for the Indo-American diaspora.

  • RainbowLuv: A dedicated dating and matchmaking service for the LGBTQIA+ community.

Matchmaking & Niche Platforms and Apps

  • Jodii: App available in 10 Indian languages, designed for individuals with varying educational backgrounds.

  • Elite Matrimony: A personalized service for high-net-worth individuals (see above).

  • IIMIITMatrimony.com: For alumni of premier educational institutes.

  • BangladeshiMatrimony.com: A region-specific platform (acquired in 2021).

  • SecondShaadi.com: A platform catering specifically to divorcees and widowers (acquired in 2018).

  • BharatMatrimony: Flagship brand.

  • CommunityMatrimony: A network of over 300 portals serving distinct communities.

  • AssistedMatrimony: A personalized, human-led matchmaking service.

Users report problems on Matrimony.com platforms primarily through in-app reporting tools or by contacting their specialized help centers.

If you encounter a suspicious or fake profile on any of their sites, you can apparently report it directly through the member's profile page:

  • Report Button: Locate and click the "Report" button, typically found at the bottom of the user's profile.

  • Provide Details: You will be asked to briefly explain the issue (e.g., fake profile, harassment, or financial scam).

  • Moderation: Moderators generally review and act on these reports within 24 hours

  • You can reach corporate support for major inquiries on +91 81449 98877. (Contact us page: https://www.matrimony.com/contact-us)

We have not been able to verify this information due to site outages.

We have seen reports of people using dating profiles on these sites being targetted by crypto scammers. Dating sites cannot, obviously, be held accountable for people misusing their sites, but we would be interested to hear how they respond, and how seriously they are taking user safety.

Meetic

Meetic was a French founded dating group, founded in 2001. In

By 2007, according to JupiterResearch, Meetic was the largest online dating service in Europe with 525,000 subscribers. (Source: Wikipedia)

Dating brands associated with Meetic include the Meetic dating app, Lexa, LoveScout, Match UK, Stepout, Ourtime and Even.

In 2011 it became part of Match Group, but some of the mentioned brands were launched as Meetic companies and reference is sometimes made on websites to the company, so we included it for the sake of completeness.

The Meet Group

The Meet Group, Inc. owns several dating app networking services including:

  • MeetMe

  • hi5

  • LOVOO

  • Growlr

  • Skout

  • Tagged

With offices in New Hope, Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Dresden, and Berlin, its parent company is ParshipMeet. (See below)

ParshipMeet Group

ParshipMeet owns the following dating brands: eHarmony; Elite Partner (Not UK: Germany, Austria and Switzerland); GROWLR; Lovoo; MeetMe; Parship (Not UK, D-A-CH region, BeNeLux and France); Skout; Tagged; and Yapp.

Your personal data may be shared within the group. Having said that, we are lead to understand that data protection laws tend to be more stringently upheld in Germany, where the epicentre of the company appears to be.

The group became ParshipMeet when Parship acquired the Meet Group.

Spark Networks

Spark Networks was formed in 2017 with the the merger of Affinitas GmbH and Spark Networks, Inc. In 2019, the company bought Zoosk. However, with growing debts, MGG Investment Group LP “became Spark Networks' sole equity holder in exchange for waiving over $45 million of debt and providing approximately $24 million to support business operations”. (Wikipedia)

  • Crosspaths

  • JDate (Jewish dating)

  • JSwipe (Jewish singles site)

  • SilverSingles

  • Zoosk

Venntro Media Group, also trading as ‘Global Personals’ and ‘White Label Dating’: gone, but the lesson lingers on

  • Logo of the Competition & Markets Authority (CMA) with a stylized 3D geometric shape in shades of blue and white, and the text 'CMA' and 'Competition & Markets Authority' on a dark gray background.

    Venntro investigated by the CMA

The CMA - Competition and Markets Authority) looked into this revenue model and found it wanting!!

  • Close-up of a black sign with the words 'Privacy Please' and a swirl design at the top, including a lock symbol above the text.

Lessons for other sites - the law as it applies to dating sites

As consumers it pays to be aware of what dating site providers are now expected to adhere to.

Hands off our data! Keep us safe!

  • Venntro Media Closed

But they will probably be back

Venntro Media Group worked on a similar basis to the models above.

The CEOs letter apologised to all of the people whose money it had lost, but not to the people whose lives it had messed around with by using their data in unexpected ways.

Predictably, despite having brought down the dating platform (how hard would it have been to get consent from people?), Ross Williams has gone on to bigger and better things.

  • Chapter 2 dating logo

    Chapter 2

A large part of Venntro Media Technology (MI4) was bought by Chapter 2 Dating, a site which is said to be aimed at widows and widowers in some places, for the over 50s in others.

Other sites under the same ownership include Soberlove and Widows Fire

  • Gaydar

    Gaydar....

Steve Pammenter was co-founder of Venntro Media Group. According to Global Dating Insights, he acquired the technology from the platform and placed it in the hands of Chapter 2.

His dating ventures include LGBTQ+ brand Gaydar, and GaydarGirls.

Widernet

Widernet says “We specialise in building quality and highly targeted platforms for singles communities” ….. ”We are always considering new projects, in particular dating sites serving new user groups.”

They list just two: Christian Connection (and a meet up group offshoot), and Ivory Towers.

There is no obvious indication of sharing data across sites or syndication, and appears to remain relatively small and privately owned.

HOWEVER - closer inspection reveals that Widernet is closely associated with/fed with information by Dating Lab. If this is accurate, your data MAY be sent to other dating apps. (See above)

Logo of WiderNet Communications with the text 'widernet' in white and 'communications' in purple.

Agenda for change

  • Data protection: Any syndicating of data must be declared and users expressly given the choice of any sites their data will appear on. Our belief is that sharing data without explicit consent (not just terms and conditions) breaches GDPR rules, is unethical, and can cause real trauma and harm to individuals.

  • Identity requirements: Our research has demonstrated a clear link between ‘catfishing’ and fraud. There should be mechanisms on each site for confirming that identities are genuine, check ages, and check criminal convictions for violence and/or sexual assault.

  • A requirement to clearly mark AI chatbots and agents as such, a duty that should be passed on to users. A regulator should be able to fine both companies andKusers who breach this rule.

  • Investigation requirements: If a user has been reported to a site for toxic behaviour, the site should investigate. This may require changes to the law for privacy reasons.

  • Full co-operation with the UK Police: If the police are investigating the user of a dating site for fraud, violence or sexual assault, full co-operation should be obligatory, and the investigated individuals flagged by systems so that if reports are received from other users, that information can be acted upon/reported. This could save lives.

  • A formal regulator: Some dating sites are failing to safeguard users and/or their data. Whilst the ODDA exists, it is merely, in reality, a membership organisation with no regulatory powers to hold members to high standards. Requiring users to report is not enough, as, as seen above, data is being shared across sites without explicit consent.

  • Banned from one, banned from all: Whilst people may occassionally do something that upsets someone personally, anyone with repeated patterns of harmful behaviour (unsolicited nudes, false representation, covert grooming, personal fraud etc), a regulator should investigate and keep a (challengeable) blacklist which dating sites should be required to implement.

Can you help?

We are looking for a volunteer (or two!) to help us

  1. Research the above dating sites’ public profiles to see which have safeguarding policies

  2. Where this isn’t available, to contact contact the dating sites to ascertain what someone should do if they meet someone who grooms or otherwise abuses people they meet.

Every bit helps - just one site per reader would help get us over the finish line/completed quickly!!
