Review of Love Con Revenge: The Selfie Scammer

Todd Dean self promotion

Todd Dean. Jill Schardein met him on the Facebook Dating site. This was her first time on a dating site, looking for love and ready for romance. She was over her divorce and she was looking for a relationship with someone steady.

Todd Dean seemed just that. Good looking. Charming. He seemed to be helping others with their mental health, and end even showed her around his planned wellness facility, Sanjara. 6’4”. Charismatic. Constant contact - around 10 selfies a day. It seemed too good to be true that they connected so well.

Sadly, it was.

But Jill didn’t know that. She was lovebombed. She stayed in his condo. They were having fun. He was making her feel good, and she opened up to him. He seemed to relate to her.

Six weeks in, he borrowed a thousand dollars. He returned it fairly quickly, with an extra 500. That created a trust. But then, slowly, he ramped it up. Jill was in deep, having given him all of her money toward his wellness business.

Eventually she accepted that she had been conned, and contacted the police, who insisted that this was a civil matter.

Brianne Joseph, a private investigator, and Cecilie Fjellhøy (famous victim of the ‘Tinder Swindler’) investigated. What transpired was Dean’s orchestrated extraction of money from women he was ‘in a relationship’ with, women who fell for a man who apparently wanted to make the World a better place through Sanjara.

The women seem to have been deliberately profiled - dating for the first time, just post divorce.

Whilst they had effectively blown his cover, he characterised them very differently to anyone who asked:

  • Karen Alpert - mentally deranged.

  • Sheena (assistant/administrator) - didn’t like not being in charge/doing things her way.

  • Jill Schardein- just had sex a few times, lying about giving him money. (It’s her story traced here.)

  • All of them, falsely presenting him as a lying, broke ‘douchebag’.

Yet the evidence was clear.

‘Friends’ were ‘donating’ 10 thousand pounds a month to the apparently charming ‘entrepreneur’. Once Joseph and Fjellhøy had the evidence, they went with Jill, who had already been treated poorly by the police, to re-report fraud. Jill was finally being taken seriously.

The Outcome

Despite everything, all of the financial trails, Todd Dean still denies the allegations. And, like the Tinder Swindler (Simon Leviev) before him, he’s still at large (although Leviev was apparently arrested in September 2025 at Interpol’s request, so maybe there’s hope yet).

According to MovieDelic’s article, Todd Dean: Where is the Selfie Scammer today?, he never truly faced justice.

He declared himself bankrupt in December 2023 (US Chapter 7 bankruptcy), thereby evading Jill’s (and the other womens’) claims.

Reading around, Dean, the Selfie Scammer (known as such because of the sheer volume of selfies and video clips he’d send to the women he was love bombing), is living in a luxury condo despite being ‘bankrupt’. Scarily, de’s giving other people business advice. He has a ‘Premium’ LinkedIn profile: “CEO | Partner | Angel Investing | Venture Capital | Growth | Result Oriented | Capital | Drive Revenues | M&A | B2B | Exits | Partnerships | Strategy | International | Relationships | Influencer”, followed by more than 30 thousand people. He’s apparently something of a hero in the Manosphere.

He continues to present himself as an advocate for mental health, and “still serves as the Founder-CEO of his business consultancy company, Todd Dean & Co.”

According to an article in SoapCentral.com, Love Con Revenge: Who is Todd Dean and where is he now? Details explored, he somehow continues his well financed lifestyle.

The CAAGe take

This is an interesting story. My heart bleeds for Jill. As I’m watching, I am bought into Joseph and Fjellhøy succeeding. I may have watched too much detective TV. This is too much to ask - the reality of the justice system and groomers is not what I wish it was*. I have unrealistic expectations. Charlies Angels. Rosemary and Thyme. Jessica Fletcher.

For me personally, this story cuts off a little soon. I’d have liked to follow through to trial, to see a little more of the work Joseph put in to trace the other victims. It follows a similar format to the TV series Catfish, but Dean’s voice of defence is missing. I’d have liked to have followed the court case. To see the women’s reaction when he declares bankruptcy.

But that’s just me. I’m around these things daily. I want to see justice. I also know this is highly unlikely. Despite clear fraud, Jill was initially told this was not a criminal offence. It was down to our amateur sleuths to prove otherwise. Not everyone has this resource.

We’ll just have to settle for exposure. The hope that any woman who crosses his path romatically looks him up online. Thr programme is there as a warning to others. Netflix, Joseph and Fjellhøy gave Jill back her voice. She was believed. She was listened to. That is to be applauded, and, sadly, for the moment at least, that may have to be enough.

Footnote: Whilst researching where Todd Dean is now (and ensuring accuracy) I came across a podcast, Ex Wives Undercover, which had apparently already carried the story as a nine part series. They seem pretty cheesed off at the episode having covered the story previously in more depth. The podcasts have been added to our reviews lists.
